Tiffany & Co. posted a 10% decrease in fiscal second-quarter net income on losses from the impending sale of its Caribbean-based jewelry stores. Tiffany boosted its fiscal-year earnings outlook and confirmed the sale of its Tokyo location for $328 million, more than double the $140.4 million it paid for the site in 2003.
Tiffany reported net income of $37 million, or 26 cents a share...

Jewelry Guild Seeks Members...
The Jewelers Studio Guild has been formed by a group of area jewelers to show and sell their work and to share knowledge and inspiration.
The Guild is seeking members who are professional in their outlook, have integrity in their work and business practices, and feel the need for quality shows at reasonable expense. Jewelers in all types of media are invited to apply. The first jury date is Wednesday, Sept. 19, and all applications must be received no later than Sept. 17 to qualify for review.

ZALE Corp. Reports Fourth Quarter Profit...
Zale Corp. swung to a profit in the fiscal fourth quarter on a one-time tax benefit as the company benefited from higher profit margins. For the quarter ended July 31, the Irving, Texas, operator of mall-based jewelry chains posted net income of $1.5 million, or three cents a share, compared with a net loss of $27.4 million, or 57 cents a share, a year earlier.
Spitzer calls anti-lead bill inadequate as he vetoes...
Gov. Eliot Spitzer vetoed a bill Tuesday night that aimed to better regulate lead content in children's jewelry, citing "numerous problems" such as proposed lead limits that weren't strong enough.
A study released earlier Tuesday highlighted the problem: It found that six of every 10 children's jewelry products sold in Albany County contain dangerously high levels of lead.
