GIA names Schuetz contest winners - National Jeweler Network

Carlsbad, Calif.—The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced the winners of its annual George A. Schuetz Jewelry Design Contest, a competition recognizing the best original designs in men's jewelry and accessories.

This year, 104 entries were received during the entry period, which ran from April 15 to June 15. After an independent panel of industry experts evaluated all entries, winners were announced Aug. 28, with first place going to Yael Serfaty of Ashdod, Israel, for his cuff links in white gold, yellow gold and diamonds. Serfaty will receive $500 and an etched crystal plaque.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this esteemed contest and for the great honor I have been awarded," Serfaty said in a statement.

Hirata Kiyoko of Ashiya Hyogo, Japan, won second place for a ring in 18-karat white and yellow gold with diamonds and blue sapphires. The piece can also be worn as a pendant.

Duck Woo Chun of Seoul, Korea, won third place for a matching tie bar and cuff link set in white gold with malachite, onyx and a white diamond melee.

The guidelines for the contest require all contestants to submit one original color design rendering that has never been exhibited or offered for sale.
