Jewelry Television - Goodies in Grandma's Attic - Jewelry Blogger

Let's talk about television! Better yet, let's talk about Jewelry Television and since their on television, we'll consider this article more like an entertainment review!
Jewelry Television has been around for a long time. Tuning into JTV and watching all of the excitement can be a bit overwhelming. I don't know how anyone can be so perky about one piece of jewelry after another. No doubt, whatever the hosts are being paid to carnival bark their way through so many pieces of jewelry and gemstones (in such little time) is the secret behind their success!
Now, don't get me wrong, this is not an article which is totally positive or pro JTV, as that would be a bit over the top for such a television show. While it's entertaining, JTV earns plenty of money from those tuning in, who get the itch to buy a piece of jewelry. I remember my grandmother watching JTV when she was alive and when she died, we spent a week going through box after box of JTV product. Grandma dies broke and left thousands in credit card bills (mostly attributed to purchases through television home shopping).
Seems grandma spent hours on end, being entertained by the personalities flowing into her living room via HSN, QVC and JTV.
Gran connected with this people, they were her friends. We visited her every weekend (100 miles+ away) but, the weekdays were filled with buying stuff from her TV pals. Mom and dad gave her money every month to pay the mortgage and food however, Gran had received six credit cards with a total of $35,000.00 in credit in a fourteen month period. She paid the minimum due every month so she just had a grand old time shopping for stuff she either didn't need or couldn't use. Jewelry and worthless gems in little brown boxes were still tightly wrapped in her dresser drawers, under the bed, in the top of the closet and in the basement. The "stuff" (as it came to be known) was everywhere.
So, Gran passes away and mom and dad paid her massive credit card bills, sold the house and recouped the loss (this happened a few years down the road). No hard feelings on anyone's part, just a bit perturbed that absolute "strangers" had invaded Gran's home (and life) through a satellite box.
Jewelry Television offers some decent deals on jewelry and gemstones however, they need some self-imposed "parental controls" put into place. In other words, we worry about our children watching a program which may not be appropriate for children to watch. In response to such a threat, we lock out the channel. In the case of Gran, if anyone selling their wares on television sees a trend developing (through easy to review accounting methods) and that someone (like Gran) is spending an inordinate amount of money on their "stuff" then maybe (just maybe) a bit of investigation on the part of the seller is in order (to ensure that someone is NOT throwing their life savings away).
Seniors, are the one segment of our population, who lose money in casinos, they can't afford to lose. The same could be said for those preying on seniors who sit at home (day in and day out) buying "stuff" they don't need and who are struggling to make ends meet.
Remember, television barkers, you can't see who's on the other end watching as you bring up one item after another - hoping to increase your bottom line.
