ALEXANDRA Faustmann. Gemmologist & Michelis’ creative director pictures a big future for colored stones and silver, the “hot, young metal” of fashion today.

She’s got movie star looks, but there’s more between the ears than meets the eye. Sanya has her eyes trained on gems. “I earned my diploma at the School of Gemmology and Allied Studies in London, and after a year, passed the exams with flying colors and was made a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A).

“In my studies, I realized that I was attracted to colored stones rather than the ubiquitous diamond. Yes, diamonds are all nice and pretty and are a girl’s best friend, but I’d rather have an Alexandrite or a Padparadasha Sapphire. Truth be told, I was happiest identifying real gemstones from their respective stimulants. Since diamond experts are a dime a dozen, I figured I’d just concentrate on the other stones instead, as they were more interesting to me anyway, and leave the experts to their carbon.”
