BI Nabs Korean for Smuggling Jewelry - JB News Feed

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested on Tuesday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), a Korean national who attempted to smuggle into the country millions worth of jewelry, officials announced yesterday.

Chang Mo Kim, 50, was immediately brought to the airport’s customs area as soon as he arrived aboard a Korean Airlines flight when members of the BI’s law enforcement division (LED) found in his possession 23 kilograms of assorted jewelry.

Bureau of Customs officials immediately confiscated the jewelry and prepared to file smuggling charges against the Korean.

Kim refused to talk when BI Commissioner Marcelino Libanan presented him to the media during a press briefing yesterday morning.

Libanan said he issued a mission order against Kim after receiving a report that the Korean is employed by a retail establishment in Makati City without the appropriate working visa.

The Korean will undergo deportation proceedings for being an undesirable alien and working in the country without a permit. (Emily G. Bugarin)
