Jewelry Retailers Say Gold Price Hike Not on Holiday Price Tags - By John Keenan

Don't let the recent jump in gold prices prevent you from buying something special for your sweetheart.

Area jewelers said the rise in gold prices, 7.6 percent in the past four weeks, hasn't affected current prices and probably won't for the holiday season.

Jay Malashock of Malashock's Jewelry Co. said he already has sent his holiday ad flyer, with specified prices, to the printer, and he said many jewelers are in the same situation.

"So in the short term, it isn't likely you'll see an effect on consumer pricing in most jewelry stores," Malashock said.

Many jewelry stores produce catalogs or fliers for the holiday season, and retailers must abide by the prices pre-viously set, he said. "Most jewelers have already finalized their holiday promotions."
