A leading authority on the gems of Afghanistan and Central Asia will bring his stories of adventure and more than 30,000 gems to a show Oct. 4 to Oct. 6 at Karen’s Jewelers.

Gary Bowersox will present an extensive and exotic collection of gems at his gem show and sale, “The Hidden Treasures of Afghanistan and Central Asia.” Gems in the show will include emerald, aquamarine, kunzite, tourmaline, ruby and lapis. He will also bring some recently cut pink spinels from the Kul-i-Lal mine in Tajikistan.

The author and gem hunter was asked earlier this year to serve as the senior adviser for a U.S. Agency for International Development project to revitalize the gemstone industry of Afghanistan. In that role, he traveled recently to Afghanistan, visiting Kabul, the emerald mines in the Panjshir Valley and the ruby mines at Jegdalek.
