'Only Watch' Auction Benefits Muscular Dystrophy - National Jeweler
Monaco—Nearly $4 million was raised in the 2007 "Only Watch" charity auction organized by Antiquorum, proceeds of which will fund medical research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most common and severe form of the muscular disorder.
The second annual edition of the auction took place on Sept. 20 in concurrence with the Monaco Yacht Show. Monaco's Prince Albert II served as an event sponsor and was in attendance among more than 300 others, including such personalities as superstar designer Philippe Starck and Formula One driver Felipe Massa.
A total of $3.89 million was raised at the 35-watch auction, with the highest bid going to a Patek Philippe timepiece—the "Nautilus Titanium," Ref. 5712T—which sold for about $739,989. The titanium timepiece features the automatic Calibre 240 movement with hour and minute indicator, seconds between 4 and 5 o'clock, power reserve, date and moon phase display.
Other top lots were a one-of-a-kind timepiece by DeWitt and Jean-Michel Wilmotte—the "Incognito 2008"—which sold for about $563,860; as well as a timepiece from Richard Mille and Philippe Stark, titled "An integral interpretation in titanium," which sold for about $451,119.
The third Only Watch auction will take place in September 2009.
