Pines resident makes jewelry & good friends - Just a Nice Story...By Laura D'Alessandro

OCEAN PINES -- Lapideggery is the combination of a lapidarist and an egg decorator, Mary Suplee and her late husband created the term for the jewelry company she still maintains.

Suplee, now an Ocean Pines resident, started out in the realm of art as a Faberge egg decorator and her husband was an expert in precious stones. She adorned the eggs with semiprecious stones.

"I was invited to jewelry shows and it evolved into me making jewelry," she said.

She made the switch 36 years ago.

"I started out with basic tumbled stones, it's come a long way," she said.

She said she refined the artform by combining her knowledge of colors and what she learned making eggs.

"We had eight children so, of course, I was forever doing art projects," she said. "Like anything else it just grew."
