Artist's jewelry takes shape locally - By Mary Chao

Inside an unassuming 1890s home on East Avenue, jeweler Boo Poulin toils away in her attic studio, creating necklaces, bracelets and earrings in minimalist geometric patterns for some 30 galleries and boutiques across the country.

A student of sculptor Albert Paley at the State University College at Brockport, Poulin honed her craft at Rochester Institute of Technology, earning a master's degree in fine arts.

The artist and businesswoman first forayed into what she describes as "alternative jewelry" in the late 1970s with a fellow jeweler and business partner, Ellen Rieben.
