Yurman opens first Chicago retail store - National Jeweler Network

Chicago—David Yurman opened his first Chicago retail store on Thursday, which features his entire jewelry line and bridal collection.

Yurman told the Chicago Sun-Times that he deliberated for seven years on where to locate the store, finally settling on the luxury-lined Oak Street, which contains such names as Graff, Jil Sander, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade, Luca Luca, Prada and soon-to-be Harry Winston.

The 1,600-square-foot store's collection ranges in price from $300 to $6,500, with the majority of the pieces tagged from $2,000 to $4,000.

Chicagoans prefer "larger, in-your-face" jewelry as well as classic designs in black and white and black and gold, Yurman told the news source.

"We've gotten away from the whispery, shy jewelry," he said.

The Chicago location carries Yurman's signature cable designs, as well as rings, watches and men's jewelry. In addition, the store carries Yurman jewelry made with gold, diamonds, South Sea pearls, amethysts, citrines and handcrafted silver.

David Yurman stores also sell limited-edition items that cannot be found in department stores, which is how the designer injects his creativity into the venues, he told the Chicago Sun-Times.

His retail stores are a major financial source, generating an estimated 25 percent of Yurman's overall revenues.
