GJEPC Honors India’s Jewelry Exporters - Rapaport

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) hosted the 34th annual awards for excellence in the gem and jewelry industry this past week in Mumbai.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, India’s commerce and industry minister, Shri Kamal Nath, said the gem and jewelry industry had emerged as a key sector in India’s goal to double its percentage share of global merchandise trade by 2009. The sector accounted for nearly 12 percent of India’s commodity exports last year, Nath said.

“Our exports of gold jewelry are also showing a healthy upward trend,” he said. “Enabling policy support from the government, craftsmanship and enterprise of the industry are responsible for this premier position.”
