Department store operator Neiman Marcus Inc. said Thursday same-store sales at its retail store segment rose 6 percent in September on strong sales of women's fine apparel and accessories such as jewelry, designer handbags and shoes.

Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, is a key indicator of retailer performance since it measures growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.
