When 'Push' Comes to Marketing Shove - By Cheryl Kremkow

Back in my days of realized fertility, when a wife gave birth, she didn't receive a diamond-encrusted "thank you" gem from her husband.

She may have gotten flowers, a teary declaration of eternal love and devotion, a new heavy duty Maytag washer, or even an enthusiastic promise to stop eyeing other dames - but she didn't get a costly "Atta girl!" prize.

Now there's "push presents," a new trend in gift giving that's growing in popularity, particularly with childbearing gals who like big-ticket items from exclusive jewelry manufacturers.

The purported reason for these costly gifts: For hubbies to show solid (gold) appreciation for their wives' nine grueling months of pregnancy and then, all that labor and (push! push! push!) delivery-induced pain. (Perhaps there's a bonus bauble for C-sections?)
