Pearl Revival Cputs spotlight on Dubai - JB News Feed
The first International Pearl Convention is scheduled to take place next month in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and the event will include the auction of what organizers say is the world's second largest natural pearl.
The five-day convention, slated to being Nov. 18, is being helmed by the Pearl Revival Committee, a Dubai, United Arab Emirates-based organization whose mission it is to revive the country's pearling tradition and embed it as part of the nation's cultural identity.
Organizers said that the convention will feature such programs as "Pearl Theatre" and "Pearl Concert" events, along with pearl seminars, films, fashions, cultured pearl displays and an Arabia pearl exhibition.
A highlight of the convention will be the auction of what organizers say is the world's second largest natural pearl (following the famed Pearl of Asia). Among the other rare pearls up for auction are the 30-millimeter "Rosebud" pearl; 13-millimeter "Golden Dome Oriental" pearl; the two strand "Oriental" necklace; and 18th century button pearl and gold jewelry.
As part of the revival initiative, organizers said they will produce an industry report highlighting the economical and commercial scope of the pearl market.
"Cyclical changes play an important role in pearl market, and the recent years have witnessed a renewed interest in them," said the revival committee's Sheikha Mae. "We aim to provide an opportunity for pearl collectors and investors to interact closely."
