Theft at Panchratna: 21,700 Carats Worth $2.53 Million Stolen - JB News Feed
Diamonds worth an estimated R.100 million ($2.53 million) were stolen from Arshit Gems at Panchratna at Opera House in Mumbai, the heart of India’s diamond trading center. The 21,700 carats of goods were apparently stolen Monday night. Police suspect that it was an inside job.
The theft took place after business hours and was discovered only the following morning. Police said they are questioning current and former employees, however no arrests have been made so far.
Police were surprised to find that the company did not employ basic security measures, such as use of a safe and closed circuit cameras. The stolen goods were stored in a wooden cupboard.
