I walked into Christopher's jewelry shop on Union Street some 14 years ago. I had a ring that needed repair. I handed over my ring to Philip Smith, and we discussed the problems, the repair and the cost.

During our conversation, Phil and I also talked about all the chores awaiting him at home. I have no idea how we got there, but I remember the way he taught me a new Southern phrase.
