NRF: Consumers still cautious about spending
October retail sales (excluding automobile, gas station and restaurant sales) increased slightly to 4.4 percent unadjusted over last year and 0.1 percent seasonally adjusted from September, signaling a slowdown in consumer spending as the retail industry begins its holiday season, according to the National Retail Federation (NRF).
October retail sales released today by the U.S. Commerce Department show that total retail sales (including non-general-merchandise categories such as automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) increased 6.7 percent unadjusted over last year and 0.2 percent seasonally adjusted from September.
