Jewelry designer says she was held prisoner in millionaire's estate

A 52-year-old jewelry designer says she was held prisoner by a millionaire on his Westchester estate, beaten regularly, starved and threatened with death if she tried to leave.

William Straus, 53, will appear in Bronx Criminal Court Monday on charges of assault and harassment for allegedly attacking Bette Marchek, 52, with a lobster trap on City Island last year. Through his lawyer, Straus vehemently denied the charges. Straus is the great-grandson of one of Macy's first owners, Isidor Straus. Macy's was sold to Federated Department Stores in 1994.
