Japan’s Dec. Polished Diamond Imports -18%; Ends 2007 -13% - Rapaport

Japan’s polished diamond imports fell 18.8 percent to $51.37 million in December, while volume declined 23 percent to 5,676,465 carats for the month. In 2007, the country’s polished imports fell 12.6 percent to $881.25 million, and volume decreased 11.2 to 104,083,068 carats. Polished diamond imports to Japan from all markets declined during the year, except from China, which increased 26.4 percent to $18.7 million and from the United States, which increased 8.5 percent to $36.94 million.
