Consumer confidence slides further in March

The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index, which had already dropped sharply in February, fell further to 64.5 in March, indicating that consumer's gloomy feelings about the economy, including the job market, remain at a five-year low. The Consumer Confidence Index had already slipped to 76.4 in February, far from the level of 100 it had reached back in 1985. The board's Expectations Index declined to 47.9 in March from 58 in February, and its Present Situation Index decreased to 89.2 in March from 104 in February.
