ImaGem Offers Tech for Fluorescence Measurement in Diamonds

ImaGem is proud to announce that it has patented technology for measuring fluorescence in diamonds. The technology establishes a standard for UV light source, measures fluorescence, identifies fluorescence color and assigns fluorescence grade consistently. The technology does not require different size master stones or different types of cuts to measure fluorescence and assign a grade. The fluorescence grading is repeatable to + /- 1/3rd of a fluorescence grade.

Recently in a press release Accredited Gemologists Association has acknowledged a need to establish a standard for UV light source. This initiative by AGA is in response to ‘consumer dissatisfaction with inconsistent grades and a specific concern that current procedures used to color grade fluorescent diamonds result in grades that are inaccurate, unscientific and misleading’ the parties said in a press release.

“Consistent fluorescence grading and establishment of a UV standard is essential to bring standardization to the industry. ImaGem Inc. research has known for years that fluorescence affects color grading. It has developed a system for accurate assessment of fluorescence and developed an algorithm to account for it in its color grading technology. The technology is in commercial use. ImaGem continues to be at the forefront of technology in the gem and jewelry industry,” said Dr. Lalit Aggarwal, inventor of the technology and founder and chairman of ImaGem Inc.

Presently ImaGem offers direct measurement of fluorescence as part of its GL 3100 automated and integrated grading system. It is capable of providing chromaticity values on x, y, z scales based on CIE standards. This technology is protected by US Patents 6020954, 6239867 and 6980283 as well as with a number of foreign patents.

Services are available through Precision Gem Grading Lab in Philadelphia and ITPL in Surat India. In the near future, ImaGem plans to provide a standalone fluorescence measurement desktop tool to the industry.

ImaGem Inc.
ImaGem Inc. is a gem information company based on patented technology for grading and identifying gems. ImaGem is the culmination of 20 years of research done on human perception and ImageStatistics, a powerful statistical tool developed by Dr. Aggarwal. ImaGem’s systems employ advanced optics, imaging technology and proprietary software programs to automate and integrate diamond grading.
Beyond providing the 4C’s, ImaGem also supplies precise and repeatable measures on light behavior and fluorescence. Light Behavior information is based three complimentary dimensions of brilliance, intensity and sparkle. Another breakthrough by ImaGem is the capability to uniquely identify and register a stone without any need for inscription. By offering all this information, ImaGem will improve decision-making and efficiency in the gem industry supply chain.
ImaGem’s light behavior technology has been adopted by: EGL USA, AGA in Philadelphia PA, ITPL in Surat, India, DGLA in Horsham PA, DGLA in Mumbai India and PGGL in Philadelphia.
